Antoon Herckenrath, The Lovers (De Verloofden)
linoleum cut, 1942, on laid paper
An outstanding example of linocut by Antoon Herckenrath, one of the preeminent printmakers of his generation, whose work I had a chance to see during a recent visit to Antwerp, Belgium. Herckenrath studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and was influenced by the prints of Henri van Straten, whose work we featured recently in this post. -Endi
Opening on December 12th, 2015 at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles, California is Ron English’s massively awaited new solo show “NEONATURE.”
English, known for his epic paintings mixing high and low culture, examines evolution with “Neonature.” As English puts it, “evolution is everything - wings flap and echoes trigger new means. It is intellectual communication. What is a butterfly pattern but a flamboyant yet fragile grab at the chance to spread the dust of its wings into new and larger worlds, a chance to seed before being consumed.”
The show will be on display until January 9th, 2016.
